There is never just one piece.

Whether I’m working with a dog professional, an agility partnership, a business owner or someone navigating life as a neurodivergent human, I come back to the same principle.
We are all trying to solve puzzles.
The problem is that we’re often taught to focus on one piece at a time.
Fix the behaviour.
Learn the skill.
Change the strategy.
Work harder.
Try something new.
But life rarely works like that.
Real progress happens when we stop looking at individual pieces in isolation and begin to understand how they fit together.
That’s why I developed The Jigsaw Approach™.
The story behind The Jigsaw Approach™
Long before The Jigsaw Approach™ had a name, I was already using jigsaw puzzles to explain behaviour, learning and performance.
As a dog trainer and agility coach, I found myself drawing puzzle pieces on whiteboards, scraps of paper and training plans because it was the easiest way to explain what I was seeing.
People were often looking for the answer.
One technique.
One exercise.
One missing ingredient.
But I kept seeing the same thing.
There was never just one piece.
That belief became such a fundamental part of my coaching that, when I created KB Agility, I chose a logo built from interlocking jigsaw pieces, with the strapline:
“Building your success, piece by piece.”

It wasn’t simply a logo or a catchy tagline. It represented the philosophy behind everything I taught – that meaningful progress comes from understanding how all the pieces fit together, rather than searching for a single quick fix.
You can still see those original foundations throughout the KB Agility brand, because they remain an important part of my journey.
Over time, I realised I wasn’t just describing dog training or agility.
I was describing how I understand almost everything.
Today, that philosophy has evolved into The Jigsaw Approach™ – my signature framework for understanding complexity. It underpins everything I do, from neuro-inclusive practice and dog professionals to agility, business coaching and human behaviour.
The puzzles may be different.
The thinking stays the same.
A way of thinking, not a training method
The Jigsaw Approach™ isn’t a checklist.
It isn’t a quick fix.
It isn’t a training technique.
It’s a framework for understanding complexity.
It encourages us to step back from the problem we’re looking at and ask a different question.
Instead of asking,
“How do I fix this?”
We ask,
“What pieces are influencing this?”
That one question changes everything.
Because when we understand the whole picture, our decisions become more compassionate, more effective and far more sustainable.

Every puzzle has corner pieces
When you build a jigsaw, you don’t start in the middle.
You begin with the corner pieces.
They give you structure.
They help everything else make sense.
The same is true in life.
Whether we’re looking at a dog, a business, a partnership or ourselves, there are foundational pieces that create the framework for everything else.
Every puzzle has corner pieces that create the foundation.
Beyond those foundations, no two puzzles are ever the same.
The pieces that matter for one dog, one person, one business or one partnership won’t necessarily be the same for another.
That’s why The Jigsaw Approach™ isn’t about following a fixed formula. It’s about learning how to identify the right pieces for each individual situation.
Once those foundations are in place, we can begin identifying the remaining pieces, understanding how they connect, and recognising the role each one plays in the bigger picture.
The goal isn’t to make every puzzle look the same.
The goal is to understand the unique pieces that make each individual puzzle whole.
One framework. Applied differently.
Although The Jigsaw Approach™ began in the dog world, it now underpins everything I do.
Dog agility
Looking beyond handling skills to understand the complete partnership between dog and handler.
Dog professionals
Helping trainers, coaches and behaviour professionals see the bigger picture in both their coaching and their businesses.
Neurodivergence
Understanding how sensory needs, communication, energy, emotions, environment and expectations all interact rather than viewing challenges in isolation.
Business coaching
Recognising that success isn’t built on marketing alone or mindset alone.
Confidence, systems, boundaries, visibility, pricing, values and wellbeing are all pieces of the same puzzle.
The puzzle changes.
The thinking doesn’t.
The Connection Code™
The Jigsaw Approach™ and The Connection Code™ work together.
The Jigsaw Approach™ helps us identify the pieces.
The Connection Code™ helps us understand why those pieces matter.
Every interaction.
Every experience.
Every success.
Every setback.
Every conversation.
Every choice.
Each one writes another line of code into our relationships, our confidence and the way we experience the world.
When we understand both the pieces and the connections between them, we stop chasing quick fixes and start creating lasting change.
Better understanding creates better connection.
That simple belief sits at the heart of everything I teach.
Whether I’m speaking to dog professionals, coaching agility handlers, supporting neurodivergent individuals or helping business owners build sustainable businesses, my work always comes back to the same principle:
There is never just one piece.
When we become curious enough to understand the whole puzzle instead of judging one missing piece, we create stronger partnerships, better decisions and more meaningful progress.
That’s what The Jigsaw Approach™ is all about.
Not finding the quickest answer.
Finding the whole picture.
A framework that’s still evolving
The Jigsaw Approach™ continues to evolve through my coaching, speaking, writing and lived experience.
It isn’t a rigid model.
It’s a growing framework designed to help us think differently, ask better questions and build deeper understanding.
Because when we put the right pieces in the right place…
Better understanding creates better connection.
